WHAT IS A POETRY SLAM?
A poetry slam is a live event where poets perform original work within a three-minute limit. A randomly chosen group of judges from the audience scores the performances, and these scores determine which poets advance. There are two preliminary rounds, and the five highest scorers will progress to a final slam round.
No props. No costumes. Just voice, body, and words (notebook or device welcome).
ABOUT THE PÎKISKWÊW COLLECTIVE
The pîkiskwêw collective is an Indigenous arts collective that highlights the voices of women, femmes, and 2-Spirit people. They aim to create space for remembrance, presence, and celebration through spoken word, poetry, and performance.
"pîkiskwêw" means "She speaks" in Nêhiyawewin (Y-dialect, Cree). You can find @thepikiskwewcollective on Instagram and Facebook .
