When a Canadian border officer interrogated Scarlet Chen about her couch, she didn’t see a threat—she saw a Feng Shui consultation.

In her hit solo show Citizen Chen, local Island comedian Scarlet Chen turns the high-stakes stress of immigration into a laugh-packed hour of cultural whiplash. From suspicious customs agents to the absurd lengths we go to “fit in,” come find out why the path to citizenship is paved with paperwork, bureaucracy, and poorly placed armchairs.

🎤 ABOUT YOUR HEADLINER

Originally from China, Scarlet Chen “accidentally” found her true calling on stage after years of working behind the scenes in film. Since her stand-up debut in 2022, she has:

Opened for comedy icons Maria Bamford and Julie Kim.
Achieved breakout word-of-mouth success at the Nanaimo Fringe.
Performed at international comedy festivals and branched into award-winning theatre.

Scarlet continues to speak funny—and the world is starting to listen.

🎬 ABOUT YOUR HOST & PRODUCER

Victoria Clements is a seasoned producer, events coordinator, and entrepreneur with deep roots in Arts and Media. From her early years in theatre to a 22-year fashion career and key roles in film and TV production, she’s worked across Canada and the U.S., including as personal assistant to the Wayan Brothers on Scary Movie. She helped lead Prospero Entertainment’s L.A. and Vancouver offices and founded the 7,000-member Victoria Film Industry Network & Events group. With over three dozen sold-out film mixers produced, hundreds of shows under her belt plus expertise in marketing, sponsorship, and industry networking, Victoria is a powerhouse connector and creative force in the Vancouver Island film scene.

🎤 ABOUT THE SPECIAL GUEST

Amit Solanki is originally from India and now calls Canada home — specifically Victoria, where he lives.

He started doing stand-up comedy in Montreal and has since performed in major cities across Canada. Amit was featured on CBC’s North by Northwest with Sheryl MacKay for his one-man yoga comedy show, Spiritualarious. He has produced and performed the show at the Edmonton Fringe Festival 2024, the Victoria Fringe Festival in 2017, 2022, 2024, and 2025, and the Nanaimo Fringe Festival in August 2023.

His comedy comes from finding the funny in silly things, then comparing them with real moments from his life across different cultures. Amit was the winner of So You Think You’re Funny at The Comedy Factory in Edmonton and Yuk Yuk’s Yuk Off in Victoria. He has performed at major comedy venues across Canada and opened for many professional comedians.
