What is Galentine’s Day? Galentine’s Day, imagined into existence by writers of the sitcom Parks and Recreation, is a global holiday that celebrates women’s friendships. A column in the Sunday Telegraph once advised that “Galentine’s Day was born out of a rebel spirit, intended as a rebuff to the conventions of Valentine’s Day. It is about doing exactly what you want to do, and feeling thankful for having friends that let you do it.” Cheers to that!
About the Headliner:
Called “Canada’s Katherine Hepburn in Adidas” and recently named “Best Comedian” in the Georgia Straight’s Best of Vancouver, Katie-Ellen is an act you don’t want to miss. Best known for appearances on CBC’s The Debaters, where they also work as an Associate Producer, Katie-Ellen’s artful delivery, surprising imagination and unique sensibility (that falls somewhere between the library and the locker-room) has made them a favourite of audiences across Canada and the U.S.
Katie-Ellen has appeared in multiple televised standup sets on CTV, CBC and APTN and been featured on major comedy festival lineups including San Francisco Sketchfest and JFL Northwest.
Katie-Ellen is also a 3-time Canadian National 5km Swim Champion. That’s unrelated to comedy, but it explains the shoulders.
About the Feature Act:
Andrea Bunnin is a Saskatoon comedian whose comedy is all over the map—unlike her. Seriously, she needs to get out more.
Her comedy explores the absurdity of daily life and the weirdness of being human. It’s candid, playful, and sprinkled with random shouting. If you’re alive, vaguely awkward, and also human, you’ll probably relate. And maybe pee a little.
