Josh Poulain

Josh Poulain is a stand-up comedian based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He became a father at 18, and that fact sits underneath most of what he does on stage — sets about raising two kids, growing up faster than he planned to, and the ordinary chaos of holding a life together. He works in the storytelling lane: tightly written, conversational, closer to a friend recapping a rough week than a comic running material. Josh has toured across Canada and Europe, with dates in London, Amsterdam, Lisbon and Rotterdam, playing clubs, theatres and festivals along the way. His comedy is personal without being niche, finding the absurdity in experiences that are specific to his life but immediately recognizable to an audience. A finalist at the East Coast Roast Battle and a performer at the Hubcap Comedy Festival, Josh has built a reputation for sharp writing, natural crowd work and an easy, conversational delivery. Off stage, Josh co-founded The Comedy Stand, a production company staging stand-up shows across Canada, and is part-owner of Halifax Live Comedy Club, the city's only independent comedy club. Between performing and producing, he understands both sides of a booking — as comfortable building a room as headlining one.
